In my early 20s I was trained as a doula in Budapest.
I became a supporter to mothers and families way before I had my daughter. This experience gave a strong baseline to my personality and career.
My natural case of sensitivity and everything I’ve learnt as a doula helped me to be able to connect with people in a very deep, vulnerable way.
A couple of years later, completely unwitting, I got trained as a fashion stylist.
It was a fun and creative way to experience new adventures in a completely different world.
So from hospitals and family homes I suddenly found myself in film sets, media projects and photoshoots and it inspired me a lot!
This journey, and a hint of luck led me to move to the UK and got a camera in my hands!
You can guess what was my first experience as an enthusiastic but very much an amateur photographer…
OF COURSE IT WAS A BIRTH!
I had a very special client in Belgium - I was their doula, and they let me take some photos for them.
This has changed my life forever once again.
A year later I gave a far from easy, but a beautiful water-birth to my daughter in Bournemouth.
Being a new mama in a different country, far from my family, friends and my support doula group has been the hardest experience in my life.
I was alone with my postnatal anxiety and depression, and my camera was my only and literature tool in my hands to connect with other people and to express myself.
My gift is to see the beauty in the ordinary, and all of these above were absolutely necessary to become the person who I am today.
I’m a mama to my hilarious and magical 9 years old Szaffi, lover to my man, who also happens to be my best friend, and an ever so curious storyteller of the wonderful human experience.
With Love,
Alex
